The only thing traders and investors are likely to focus on today is the Federal Reserve Board's statement on interest rates and economic policy, which will be released at 2:15 p.m. ET.
If IWM, the exchange-traded proxy for the Russell 2000, can manage to produce some further gains and outstrip the performance of the larger-cap indices, this would lend support to the notion that the recent correction may be almost finished.
The indices ended mixed at the end – but it was a pretty interesting day. There was a lot of back and forth vacillation and volatility in the morning, but they failed to break them down below 1660 NDX and 1035 SPX.
