The yen is at a multi-year high against the dollar, a fact that reflects the unease which is also keeping the yields on several key government bond benchmarks at or near historically low levels.
The stock market indices started the week out on a negative note, but the session began very differently. They gapped up at the opening, ran sharply, reached resistance, and then came down very hard off those resistance levels to test support.
In the next few years, US stocks are not likely to pay off. The stock market entered a bear phase in January 2000. Since then, stock market investors have made some money and lost some money. Some are ahead a little. Some are behind. Most have gotten nowhere.
