When stocks have been selling off so sharply that they are in "oversold" territory, higher volume can actually be a sign of stealth institutional accumulation as the rest of the retail investors finally give up and sell their losing positions. As such, yesterday's higher volume losses could be viewed as a neutral to slightly bullish signal, at least for the very near-term.

The stock market indices were lower on Thursday, but came dramatically off the early sharp lows.

At this point traders really do not need higher volume to confirm down days, as the broad market averages are clearly under distribution.

When interest rates were falling from 15% to 3% it was hard to go broke. Almost no matter how much debt you had, you could refinance at lower rates. Which gave the rest of the world the wrong idea. It seemed like you could borrow forever.

The stock market indices started out the day with a strong surge, pulled back in an orderly fashion, and then made new highs by late morning.
