Around the Horn: Stocks to Watch for March 1

By midday, Tuesday’s trading had provided just about all the good volatility it was going to offer. Copper Cameron (CAM), which I discussed last night, made a steady move into the anticipated range and provided profit opportunity in the neighborhood of $2.00/share along the way.

Futures related Gold and Silver trading made the metals a hot (as in potato) commodity during the session, and I will be watching for a Fast Ball continuation move lower in Anglogold (AU) on Wednesday as a result.

Anglogold

Telecom (XTC.X) moved lower throughout the session, leaving Harris International (HRS) in Fast Ball breakdown through the crucial 50 day simple moving average.  We will watch for signs of a sector continuation and look for short side move in HRS as well.

Harris Corp.

The Health Care Products Index (RXP.X) also snapped sharply lower in Tuesday’s trading.   Varian Medical Systems (VAR) left a bar with little support below, and will be on my short sale radar for Wednesday.

In the energy sector, I will look for any move below the 50 day simple moving  average in Western Gas Resources (WGR) to continue and retrace more of the Fast Ball move made last Thursday.

Finally, Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc (YUM) took a beating during the session, and the resulting bell-to-bell Fast Ball range and volume expansion showed no signs of letting up. I will be on the lookout for any pullback entries with reasonable risk/reward ratios on Wednesday.
